First grade students recently went on a field trip to Wright's Market in Mardela Springs. They learned about the life cycle of pumpkins and observed the various stages of this cycle. Students also learned about the family farm and the various crops grown there. The best part of their day was getting to pick their own pumpkins off the vines.

Did you know you can give input on the next WCPS calendar before it's even designed? A new survey for the WCPS community is open now, and the information received will be used to create the option(s) for next year's calendar. Complete the survey at https://tejoin.com/scroll/351798411 before November 1.

Good evening, WCPS families. This is Superintendent of Schools Lou Taylor, and I have written an open letter to our community this week correcting some misinformation about our school system. I hope you will take a moment to visit our website, www.worcesterk12.org, to read it. Thank you.

Attention WCPS families: If your family received Maryland SUN Bucks over the summer, be sure to use them before they expire on October 30. For more information or to check your SUN Bucks balance, visit https://dhs.maryland.gov/sunbucks/.

#WCPSInTheNews: Education News Source, The 74, highlights Worcester's performance with literacy: "Every state has its own pockets of success (represented as gold circles in the graphs). These “exceptional districts” are in the top 5% of their state, in terms of outscoring their expected reading proficiency rate. For example, Worcester County in Maryland serves about 7,000 students along the Atlantic coast. Worcester falls in the middle of the pack in terms of poverty, but it has by far the highest third grade reading proficiency rate in the state."
