Students in Ms. Thompson's Kindergarten Class at Ocean City Elementary have been preparing for Valentines Day. The students wrote about and drew pictures of what love means to them. Some examples include Love is making cards and being a good friend.

Students made Valentine's cards as part of their annual participation in the Valentines for Veterans program. Students in PreK to grade four were encouraged to make homemade cards to show appreciation to veterans for their service and sacrifice for our country. This year, cards will be sent to veterans' hospitals and rehab facilities such as Perry Point, Charlotte Hall,, Baltimore Rehab and the Baltimore VA Medical Center.

As road conditions are anticipated to worsen overnight and due to the previously scheduled early dismissal days, WCPS will hold virtual learning days on January 23rd and 24th. Students should log-on to Schoology according to their regular schedule. All afterschool, evening, and Adult Education classes are cancelled.

Fourth grade students are participating in their annual Tournament of Books. Students will read sixteen books and vote on their favorite in March. At the end of the tournament, each 4th grader will receive a copy of the winning book thanks to the Hertrich Cash for Class Program.

We are pleased to announce MRS. STACEY PHILLIPS as our 2024-2025 TEACHER OF THE YEAR! This is Mrs. Phillips' 30th year of teaching. Mrs. Phillips loves working with colleagues to help children see the connections between the Arts and other subjects. She encourages her students to remember knowledge is not confinded to a box called Art, Math, or Reading and that information and skills transfer across subjects. She always wants students to keep these words in mind: "Observe, Imagine, and Create." ❤️
