⭐️Today, we honor the incredible contributions of Maya Angelou, a beacon of strength, resilience, and creativity. ⭐️ As a poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist, she used her voice to inspire countless individuals and advocate for equality and justice. Her iconic work, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," opened doors to discussions about race, identity, and trauma, paving the way for future generations of writers. Maya's words remind us of the power of storytelling and the importance of embracing our true selves. Let’s continue to share her messages of empowerment and love, ensuring that her legacy lives on in our hearts and actions. 🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿 #BlackHistoryMonth #LegacyOfHope #Inspiration #CivilRights #Poetry #Empowerment

⭐️Each day in February, we will highlight the contributions of Black individuals. Today we highlight local hero, Stephen Handy Long.⭐️ Stephen Handy Long was a passionate educator, leader, and advocate for Black education in Maryland. 🎉 After receiving his college degree, Long returned to his native Eastern Shore of Maryland, where he took on elementary school teaching roles in Somerset County (Fairmount, Maryland) and later in Worcester County (Pocomoke City). His dedication and success as an educator led to a historic appointment in 1914, when the Worcester County Board of Education named him the first "Supervisor of Colored Schools". 📚✨ Professor Long held this position with distinction, tirelessly working to improve educational opportunities for Black children in Worcester County, until the day of his terrible murder. Let us honor his legacy by continuing to advocate for equality and excellence in education for all. 🙌🏽❤️ #BlackHistoryMonth #StephenHandyLong #Education #Legacy #EquitableAccessForAll
