School's back, and so are kids walking, biking and riding to class.
Slow down in school zones, watch for children, and be ready to stop at crosswalks. #WeAreWorcester

Every child getting on or off a school bus deserves to make it home safely.
Slow down, stay alert, and never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing. #WeAreWorcester

Backpacks mean more than a new school year, they mean more children on the move.
Give yourself time to react. Slow down and watch for students near schools, bus stops, and crosswalks. #WeAreWorcester

WCPS leaders stopped by Ocean City Elementary this week to check out student learning during the last days of summer academy, including participating in a community building circle! Tell us in the comments what your response would be to this student's community building question: Would you rather be a narwhal or a mermaid?

What She Loves About Her Work

What People May Not Realize
One thing people don’t know about my job as a cafeteria worker is how physically demanding it is. We’re on our feet for hours, lifting, cleaning, cooking, serving, and keeping everything moving nonstop.
What She Loves Most About Her School Community

Meet Tracy Schur, Bookkeeper at Ocean City Elementary
5 years with Worcester County Public Schools
“When students come up to me for a hug, it shows me that they remember how I made them feel… that's what I feel most proud of – not because of numbers, spreadsheets or reports I complete – but because I was able to be someone who made them feel safe.”
What She Loves About Her Work
After spending 23 years working in accounting for a local municipality, I never expected how much I'd enjoy this job! Working at OCES, I still have the financial responsibilities of making deposits, check writing and reconciliations but what makes this role special is the interaction with all the children. From helping during lunch to settling 3 year olds down for rest time. It's hard to believe how quickly five years have flown by.
What People May Not Realize
People don't realize a school bookkeeper does a little bit of everything. One minute, I'm counting money for a deposit, to helping serve in the cafeteria, to helping with recess duty or just being there for kids. Helping out wherever is needed to make our school day successful.
What She Loves Most About Her School Community
I love my school community because it feels like my family, everyone from the students to the staff. The kids always brighten my day, and it just makes coming to work enjoyable.
